FWIW, it turns out that the issue stopping outside help from getting in was that the area was declared to be under "martial law" rather than just a "state of emergency".Since martial law has specific legal and military meaning, foriegners simply can't legally go in, regardless of their intentions. It has the benifit of allowing the local government the ability to call upon military help, but the flip side is that when you turn control over to the military, military rules get used. I'm glad it got straightened out. Also, the Canadian and other governments (including the US, of course) are already putting in longer term plans - issues with disease, agriculture, etc that are not appearing now will start showing up, so even if you don't see help from a particular country right now, you may see it in a couple of months in a different context. For example, I know my government has completed an inventory on drugs and medical supplies intended to deal with issues that are not even showing up yet, but certainly will shortly. There are several tons ready for shipment when the time comes that they are needed.Unfortunately, it's not over yet, and won't be for many months to come.BTW, I don't know if any of you have seen this, but it's an amazing read:http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/It's a blog (complete with pictures and a live feed) by the crisis manager of a webhosting company that has a diesel powered, fully backed up "bunker" that managed to keep their OC3 connections up and running, while providing a blow by blow account of what it's like there right now.Very inspiring.Ian more...

skr325: What To Do When A Ppc Campaign Just Won't Convert (Pay-per-click (PPC) Search Engine Advertising)
Where are the ads taking the user? To the homepage? If so, the homepage is a loudmouth answer to a quiet question asked in Google. Say the user searched for iPod InMotion...what would they do with this homepage -- they'd be forced to "search" again below the fold, or perhaps even dig to other pages. Have you tried landing pages and A/B testing? While I agree the page looks "perty", and there is quite a bit of information, a case might be made for overwhelming a user coming from an ad.What I am saying is that there is a lot of noise on the homepage and your PPC audience is very particular (as we all know the iPod crowd is savvy) and wants to see the iPod InMotion stand out with perhaps some also consider type products perhaps listed nearby. They don't want a catalog, they want the iPod InMotion.sak... more...
